CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SUPPORTS SHROPSHIRE JOBSEEKERS

With recent figures showing that county unemployment levels are on the rise for a second consecutive month, Shropshire Chamber of Commerce has pledged to support local people in their search for a job by introducing an innovative video CV service. Launched at the end of 2014, Shropshire Chamber’s People Portal (www.scocpeopleportal.com) is a first-of-its-kind recruitment platform for jobseekers and employers alike, and has already achieved significant success. “We’re dedicated to continually enhancing the services we provide here at Shropshire Chamber of Commerce and following 18 months of hard work, trials and developments, we were delighted to launch People Portal at the end of last year,” explained Business Development Manager, Chris Jones. “The scheme aims to streamline the processes leading up to an interview, and is unique in the way that it uses video as the prime method of capturing an individual’s skills and abilities, rather than paper-based documentation – perfect for candidates who find it challenging to convey their competencies on a standard CV.” People Portal candidates are coached on how to best convey their skills and abilities in the most appropriate way through a presentation skills workshop. With the support of the scheme, they then produce a presentation to use as their own virtual CV, and are provided with a unique URL which can be used to direct web traffic to the video. Virtual CVs are also uploaded to the People Portal website so prospective employers can view the candidates and decide whether they are right well before any interview stage – saving valuable time and cutting out the need for pre-qualifying interviews. “We’ve had a great response from candidates so far and fantastic feedback from employers who have used People Portal,” continued Chris. “The scheme is open to anyone – whether you’re looking to take your first step on the career ladder, are considering a career change, or have been out of work and are struggling to secure a job. Naturally, spaces are filling up fast, so I’d encourage anyone interested in finding out more to visit www.scocpeopleportal.com or email peopleportal@shropshire-chamber.co.uk,” he concluded.
