Looking for Work? Look no further

Are you the type of person that lets your nerves get the better of you at a job interview? Or are you one of few people that enjoy them? Either way, searching for the dream job can be so difficult, time consuming, and down-right disheartening if you aren’t considered.
And yet with statistics showing that it costs an employer on average £4,500 if they don’t take the right person on the first time and have to re-recruit, it’s plain to see that something needs to be done to make sure you, as the candidate, come across as best you can. Not only to fulfil your own ambitions, but to benefit the company that is recruiting too.
That’s why People Portal may be right for you…
It’s a programme pioneered by your Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, aimed at providing employers across the county with a catalogue of video CVs to help them pre-qualify candidates before the interview stage, and view those most applicable to them by using handy filters for industries, specialisms and skills.
It’s a much more relaxed way for you to search for employment, and for others to find you. As part of the programme, you will receive:
your own professional video CV recorded in a comfortable environment
informal training on how to present yourself on video, plus ongoing support
a set of funded business courses to help you identify your own unique selling point
the chance to stand out to employers, who may not have considered you solely on a paper-based CV
all of the above for free!
Why is there a need for a video CV service?
Traditionally, people use CVs to evidence their skills, work history, experience, hobbies and interests relevant to a role. But it just doesn’t give employers a true representation on who you are as an individual, and due to the volume of CVs received – with an average of 250 submitted for every vacancy – the perfect candidate can be easily overlooked or missed.
According to recent statistics, 70% of job seekers miss vital information from CVs, and this severely affects your chance of securing that dream job. And with the jobs market even more crowded than ever before, providing a first-class CV is essential.
Not only this, but employers typically ask two questions when reading CVs. The first is “can they do the job?” and the second is “will they fit in with the company?”. Quite often, people can be easily trained up to the level of skills required for the job – and that might not be the major obstacle. The major obstacle could be whether or not you’ll fit in the company, and that’s why some employers may not employ the right person the first time. Your own personality is difficult to get across on a piece of paper, or during the first interview when you’re naturally nervous.
